JD Specialty Turkey Farms Best Ever Roasted Turkey Recipe

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Place rack in the lowest position of the oven.

  1. Remove the JD Farms Specialty Turkey from the package, neck and giblets from inside the cavity, rinse the inside and outside of the turkey, and pat dry with paper towels. Place the turkey, breast side up, on a rack in the roasting pan. Loosely fill the body cavity with stuffing.* Season the skin with salt and pepper. Cover the turkey with roasting pan lid or an aluminum foil tent over the turkey.

  1. Place turkey in the preheated oven, and after 2 1/2 hours remove roaster lid or aluminum foil (time is based on an approximate).

  1. Continue to roast until a meat thermometer inserted in the meaty part of the thigh reads 180 degrees F (80 degrees C), about 4 hours for an 18 pound bird. See Roasting Timetable HERE for other weights. 

  1. Transfer the turkey to a large serving platter, cover with aluminum foil and let it stand for at least 15 to 20 minutes before carving.

 

*Stuffing should not be prepared ahead. The dry and wet ingredients for stuffing can be prepared ahead of time and chilled. However, do not mix wet and dry ingredients until just before spooning the stuffing mixture into a poultry cavity, in/on other meat, or into a casserole. If stuffing a whole turkey,chicken, or other bird, spoon the stuffing in loosely – about 3/4 cup of stuffing per pound. The stuffing should be moist, not dry, because heat destroys bacteria more rapidly in a moist environment.
